Into the Hills We Go...
I am currently sitting in my tent in the Angeles Forest/Monte Cristo campground. It is late and I can hear a couple moving into the otherwise silent grounds. I’m hoping I didn’t hang my food in their space… They just turned their generator on… I was all set to write of the quiet solitude this night has brought. All the other occupants are asleep and I have been enjoying the stars.
It was not an easy day of climbing, it was only 30 miles long but about 4,000 ft. of elevation with a very heavy bike. The new bike is amazing, despite my struggles. The more I ride the stronger I become. The more I battle the more I know I can win. I imagine this is what I can expect of the Rockies; climbing, climbing, climbing.
My legs nearly seized up a couple of times but I managed to keep the pain at bay with salt pills and stretching. I have my period and I’m guessing that had a lot to do with me not feeling too well as I climbed, especially near the beginning. I had to stop a lot and rode slowly. I don’t mind having bad days, they have me looking forward to the good days.
It’s almost 11 o’clock and the generator is still running. Glad to have ear plugs.
Distance: 30 miles
Climbing: Approx 3900ft.
